Oregon Firefighter Training, Certifications, and Testing Summary
Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST)-Oregon Fire Training- The Fire Training Section provides entry-level, specialized, leadership and maintenance training to Oregon's fire service professionals on a regional basis and at the Oregon Public Safety Academy.
									  Find Courses in Oregon by their Course ID-Some courses include Firefighter I, Firefighter II, MCTO Series, Fire Instructor, Fire Officer, and Haz-Mat.

								  Becoming a Firefighter in Medford
             
Medford Fire Department typically receive 400 to 500 applications every time we open our hiring process. We recommend you follow the following steps if you are interested in becoming a Firefighter.
             
* High School: Consider doing your senior project on a fire related subject. Contact our office at 774-2300 for more information. Graduate!
* Participate in a strength, flexibility, and endurance fitness program
o Make the fitness program part of your normal routine – forever.
* Become a Volunteer Firefighter (At 18 years old)
* Become an Accredited Firefighter through DPSST
o Earn your Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, Hazardous Materials Operations, Wildland Interface FF, Fire Apparatus Driver.
o EMT - Basic, Intermediate, Paramedic
* Work in a related field
o Ambulance company as a transport medic
o Oregon Department of Forestry as a Firefighter
o Airport Fire Department as a Firefighter
* Earn a College Degree - Fire Science and/or Paramedicine
o Rogue Community College, Chemeketa Community College, or other colleges with a Fire or EMS program.
* Apply for all positions-be proactive and search for tests
o Contact Fire Departments where you want to work. Ask them what types of tests they offer ie civil service, firefighter questions etc.
* Keep taking classes and acquiring certs
             
Medford Fire / Rescue Hiring Process
             
* Usually 400+ applications
* Assessment center:
o Physical Agility, Firefighter Entrance test, Interview, background evaluation, and a technical skills assessment (Fire and EMS)
* Applicants with the top scores receive an interview with Fire Chief
* Background investigations on those selected by Fire Chief
* Job offers made contingent on successful completion of medical physical, drug Screen, and psychological exam
* Eight weeks of recruit training, one year probation

								  How to become A Portland firefighter- Portland Fire Bureau gives advice how how to become a firefighter in their city. 
								
								To be ready for any written test or exam,    Firefighter Exam can assist. We offer over 1600 firefighter and civil    service  questions. The civil service questions cover vocabulary,    spelling, math, gears, pulley systems, spatial orientation, maps and many    more items. Also be prepared if the fire department throws some EMT questions    into your exam. EMT National    Training  is another study prep guide for obtaining the extra emergency    medical information that you may need.
